Our Students' IOWA Assessment Scores
Tell An Impressive Story!
Each spring, students in the Catholic elementary and middle schools of the Archdiocese of Hartford, which includes Saint Gabriel School, take the Iowa Assessments (IA). This year, as in previous years, students at Saint Gabriel School did extremely well on all subtests of this battery - math, reading, and language arts. Importantly, the test scores show that our students did not fall behind due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The charts on the right indicate the Saint Gabriel School average grade equivalents in Math and Language Arts (core areas). Students take IA in the eighth month (April) of each school year and should achieve, minimally, a grade equivalent score of the eighth month of whatever grade they are in. For example, third graders should score 3.8 (third grade, eighth month), fourth graders should score about a 4.8 (fourth grade, eighth month), and so on.
A few points to keep in mind. This is the first year the third and fourth graders have taken the Iowa Assessment tests. Fourth graders missed the tests last year due to Covid-19.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the SGS teachers and staff who worked incredibly hard this year; most doing double duty teaching in-person and at home. I would also like to thank all of our families for being so supportive of the school this year. We are so fortunate that you entrust your children with us every day.
Peace and Blessings,
Karla F. Neville | Principal
