Music Education
The Saint Gabriel Music Room is located on the third floor.
Through music education each student will learn to grow as an independent musician and will cultivate, through exposure and self-discipline vocal and instrumental skills. Twice a year concerts are given by the students so that they can showcase the acquired new skills they have learned in the music class.
Singing, playing instruments, moving to music and creating music enable students to acquire muscial skills and knowledge that can be developed in no other way.
Students, in grades K-4 learn by doing. Students in grades 5-8 continue to learn by doing and the music they engage in becomes an integral part of their personal music repertoire.
The middle school students will learn to flourish as an independent musician. They will grow through exposure to the art form and explore the history of music. They will listen to different genres of music and study the composers that represent that type of music. Their learning will be enhanced by auditory, as well as, visual educational material. They will research biographies of famous musicians and great composers. They will also learn to classify them by their notable works, genre and by era. Through physical education, children learn how to become physically fit in an enjoyable, healthy environment where structure and guidance are provided for all participants. Team play, good sportsmanship, and a sense of individual success are the goals of the physical education curriculum. Participation, rather than competition, is stressed. The creation of class squads of boys and girls with different levels of athletic skills enables all children to participate in traditional and non-competitive games on a fair playing field. Strategies and teamwork are far more important than score keeping. Each physical education class begins with a warm-up. Activities related to the current sports unit precede playing a game. Throughout the year, discussion of physical fitness includes nutrition, receational fitness, and mind/body awareness.
