Second Grade Saint Gabriel School
Second Grade is a year filled with spiritual growth. Students prepare for and receive both the sacrament of Reconciliation and the sacrament of First Holy Communion. Students participate in the Guardian Angel Program where they are paired with a sixth grader. This mentor program allows the students to grow both spiritually and socially. It also allows the students a chance to work on projects together.
The second grade curriculum includes the following: Penmanship, Religion/Family Life, Reading, English, Spelling, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Health, Phonics.
The second grade program also includes 40 miuntes a week for each of the following specials: Art, Gym, Music, Chorus, and Computer Science.
Students visit/use the school library on a weekly basis. Hundreds of books are available in the classroom as well.
Students enjoy a variety of activities in academic subject areas. Some of the highlights include: a talking globe, classroom computer, research material, art supplies amd a variety of games.
Second grade students take a field trip to an apple orchard and pumpkin patch in the fall and go to a play during the second half of the year.
