First Grade Saint Gabriel School

The first grade academic program is based on the State of Connecticut and the Archdiocese of Hartford guidelines and requirements.

The first grade curriculum includes the following: Handwriting, Religion, Reading, Language Arts/English, Spelling, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Health, Phonics, Writing (stories), Art, Gym, Music,and Computer Science.

The first grade program also includes 40 miuntes a week for each of the following specials: Art, Gym, Music & Chorus, and Computer Science.

Activities in Grade 1:
  1. Morning Prayer
  2. Collect any items from students that they have been brought to school
  3. Morning assignments
    • Written work
    • Learning activities
    • Help students who need extra help in math or reading
  4. Enrichment in Reading
  5. Lessons (see above curriculum guidelines)
  6. Snack - Recess - Lunch
Other activities in first grade include:
  1. Learn poems for the letters/holidays
  2. Songs to make learning fun
  3. Last Supper celebration
  4. Mass for Ascension Thursday
